Portland: Favorite hoods & Food spots

Oh man. This city is a dangerous place …and I mean that in a good way.  I fell in love with this city many years ago and finally had a chance to make it back. Lush green trees, organic farmers markets, microbreweries, farm to table restaurants, wineries, happy hours, flower shops, vintage boutiques, endless record shops, artisan chocolate, salt, ice cream and cheese shops … I could keep going, but I’ll stop now.

I didn’t get a chance to brewery hop this time, but if you’re ever in Portland — hop on a brew tour around the city. There are over 50 craft breweries in Portland.

Favorite Breweries:

  • Widmer
  • HUB
  • Coalition Brewing Co.
  • Breakside Brewery
  • Ecliptic Brewery

Favorite Neighborhoods and places to Grub:

NW Portland 21st and 23rd Streets:

  • Sammy’s Flower Shop (reference post)
  • Pizzicato Pizza
  • City Market (absolutely dangerous…I take multiple laps around this place to make sure I don’t miss anything. Fresh organic meat, cheese, seafood, veggies, fruit, bread, beer, wine, etc.). Its small but amazing for local and gourmet goods. Stop here before heading out for a picnic or hike.

Pearl District

  • Tear Drop — Great happy hour spot. If you like unique cocktails, stop here. They have hundreds of bitters available to choose from.
  • Blue Hour — French/Italian restaurant
  • Green Leaf Juice Bar — of course Portland is on the Juice train.
  • Hotlips Pizza
  • Jamison — Farm to table cuisine

Alberta Street

  • Pine Street Biscuits — be prepared to wait, but IT IS WORTH IT. All time favorite.
  • Digs Inside & Out — Home . Garden . Lifestyle . Design . Shop
  • Salt & Straw — Artisan Ice Cream
  • Bunk Sandwiches — best sandwiches in Portland

Mississippi Street

  • Por Que No — Cheap Mexican food, Margaritas, Horchata and Sangria
  • Interurban - Happy Hour 3 - 6. It's a legit HH with a beautiful patio. Two words …Bone Marrow. It's on the happy hour menu…they’re doing things right over there! Also, for appetizer or a snack order the charcuterie tray — local meat and artisan cheese.

There are a million things to do in and around Portland. Take my advice, do some research, deal with the rain and have a beautiful time!
